Weekend rambles: London Loop from Banstead (11 miles)

Walk London is hoping to stage a significant walk around a 11-mile stretch of the London Loop from Banstead station this Saturday, January 26.

The organisers state that, “This is a rural walk along relatively level ground combining some beautiful Surrey landscapes and unusual local points of interest.

The gentle curves of the River Hogsmill are passed during the walk

“The first section passes a number of points of interest including Warren Farm, Nonsuch Park and the Bourne Hall Park. On the second half you will see scenery that inspired Pre-Raphaelite Painters, overhanging willows and the gentle curve of the River Hogsmill.

“Walkers can end the walk at Berrylands Station, after 9 miles, or continue an extra two miles to Kingston. There will be a short stop for refreshments at Bourne Hall Park and a one-hour stop for lunch at the Hogsmill Tavern.”

The walk is free of charge and does not require booking. You simply need to arrive – in suitable footwear and clothing – at Banstead station (postcode: SM7 1PZ) for a 10.30am start and ensure that you are fit enough for a day-long walk, as the full route can take up to seven hours.

Depending on the weather conditions through the week, it may be advisable to check the day before that the walk is taking place.
