A group of childhood friends from Croydon will make their debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this week with a multi-award-winning play they have written, produced, directed and act in.
The Babysitters was described as a “rip-roaring black comedy” when it won the Best Play award at the Durham Drama Festival.
Written by Lewis Meade and Matt Dann, the cast also includes Will Downes; all three went to school in Croydon and have been performing together since the age of 10.
The company also includes Michael Forde, who has a won a scholarship to LAMDA, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
While they were at university in Durham, Dann directed 10 award-winning plays, supported by Meade as they established their own theatre company, Thrust Stage.
The Babysitters is playing at C Space, off Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, from July 31 to August 16.
The play follows two rookie mobsters who, under pressure from their boss, attempt to extract vital information from a hostage.
The show took the Durham Drama Festival by storm, winning best play, best actor and best supporting actor in 2013. It won Best Comedy at the Durham Student Theatre Awards this year.
