Children in Croydon have been neglecting their Playstations and mobiles to support a number of charitable causes.

Inspired by First Give, a charity that helps young people use their time and talent to improve their communities, pupils at the Quest Academy in South Croydon have won grants totalling £1,500 for charities in the local area.
Pupils were selected for the quality of their work to present the case for five charities to a panel of judges including Deputy Mayor of Croydon, Wayne Trakas-Lawlor.
First Give provides a free eight-week programme in schools that allows pupils to us their time, tenacity and talents to improve their local community.
A number of exceptional causes were advocated including Age UK Croydon and Stepping Up, South East Cancer Help Centre and SCBU Princess Royal Hospital.
“It was really uplifting and encouraging to see young people advocating for our charity,” said Carole Hunt, the community fundraiser for South East Cancer Help Centre. “They put so much work into their presentation; it was both professional and powerful.”
Quest Academy is one of 110 schools taking part in the First Give programme this academic year, meaning that a total of £165,000 will be won for local charities by local children all over the Greater London area.
