Only five Croydon Tory councillors listed as ‘Backing Boris’

Croydon Town Hall’s Conservatives are not backing Boris.

But does Croydon love Boris?

That’s according to a listing published today by the Boris Johnson leadership campaign which includes just five of Croydon’s 29 Tory councillors, from among 1,000 Conservative elected representatives at local authorities around the country.

In Sutton, only two of that borough’s 17 Tory councillors make it on to the list of supporters of the racist, incompetent, philanderer and serial liar.

Johnson, the former Mayor of London, is the runaway favourite in the two-man race with Jeremy Hunt to become the next leader of the Conservative Party, and therefore Prime Minister.

Councillors Simon Hoar, Yvette Hopley, Tim Pollard, the leader of Croydon Tories’ opposition group, Scott Roche and Andy Stranack are the only Croydon Tories named on the Boris Johnson cheerleaders’ list.

The Johnson campaign’s listing may not be exhaustive.

Oh dear…

For example, missing from the list is “Silent” Steve O’Connell, the completely useless senior Croydon Tory councillor and London Assembly Member who worked with Johnson at City Hall during his mayoralty, and is known to be a keen supporter of the Old Etonian buffoon.

But notably not on Johnson’s list of councillors are Mario Creatura, his party’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Croydon Central, and Jason Cummings, the deputy leader of the Tories at Croydon Town Hall.

Creatura and Cummings are both employed as special advisors to Theresa Mayhem in Downing Street.

The Sutton councillors backing Johnson do not include their council group leader, Tim Crowley, nor Neil “Father Jack” Garratt, the Tories’ candidate for Croydon and Sutton in next year’s London Assembly elections.

Mario Creatura: not loyal to The Great Leader

The Johnson campaign today described the backing from councillors as “unprecedented”.

They said, “This is the first time that Conservative councillors en masse have publicly endorsed a candidate during a Conservative leadership contest. Traditionally, councillors do not take sides during such leadership contests.”

Which seems to confirm that Johnson’s self-centred and chaotic approach to leadership could prove bitterly divisive, to his own party and the country.

For a start, how will the sadly deluded Boris fans among the grassroots Conservative members be likely to react to their ward councillors if they have not been named among the loyal supporters of Johnson?

The whole thing smacks of a sort of “oath of loyalty”, of the kind which the Wehrmacht and civil service were forced to take from 1934 in Germany, in a public demonstration of their allegiance to The Great Leader.

And we know how that worked out.
