The walled garden in Park Hill Park has been given a cash boost by the Mayor of London
A project to redesign Park Hill Park’s Victorian walled garden has had £17,500 pledged by the Mayor of London in a round of crowdfunding for community projects.
Through Crowdfund London, Mayor Sadiq Khan has pledged more than £600,000 to support 23 neighbourhood projects around the capital.
The Park Hill project is the only scheme in this part of south London to receive cash from the Mayor.
“These wonderful local ideas could help transform local communities, but they need further support and donations to become a reality,” Khan, pictured left, said today.
The Park Hill Park walled garden needs funds to help provide fully accessible pathways, new planting and hard landscaping and performance space.
The Mayor’s contribution would bring the Friends of Park Hill total to £23,718, towards their budget goal of £30,000. The Friends have to achieve their full crowdfunding target to qualify for the Mayor’s share of the cash.
“The new garden will enhance the whole community’s social, physical and mental well-being by enabling the disabled, elderly and young families, as well as the wider community, to enjoy and be immersed in nature, biodiversity, outdoor learning and the therapeutic benefits of gardening within a unique setting,” the Friends group says.
