Lucky winners to enjoy gala Shenzhen concert at Fairfield Halls

Congratulations to loyal subscribers Moira O’Donnell and Cathy Burns, who have each won a pair of tickets to attend this week’s gala concert at the Fairfield Halls by the China Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Daye Lin.

Living the dream: Daye Lin will be conducting the Shenzen Symphony Orchestra in Croydon

Each prize is worth nearly £90.

Cathy and Moira both knew – or checked on the Racing Post’s archive page – that Noble Yeats, ridden by Sam Waley-Cohen, was the winner of the 2022 Grand National steeplechase at Aintree.

The violin soloist at the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra concert in Croydon is Tamsin Waley-Cohen, cousin of the winning amateur jockey.

Our prize competitions are open exclusively for paid-up subscribers to this website, one of several benefits offered to readers for playing their part in supporting our independent, investigative journalism.

This week’s concert promises to be outstanding.

The programme features Mahler’s “Titan” First Symphony and Chausson’s Poème,  a fantastical story about a woman seduced by a former lover with an enchanted violin, which will be performed by the internationally acclaimed violin soloist Tamsin Waley-Cohen.

The concert will include the first live orchestral performances of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Oscar-winning film music by Tan Dun since its release two decades ago.

If you weren’t lucky enough to win in our competition, tickets are still available to buy from the Fairfield Halls.

As with previous concerts in the international series, the Fairfield  Halls is offering free tickets to under-18s if accompanied by an adult.  There is also a “season ticket” multibuy discount for anyone booking tickets for the China Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra on March 22 as well as the Czech National Symphony Orchestra on May 16.

Tickets and full booking details are available at fairfield.co.uk.
