BRIT in deal to secure free schooling for talented arts pupils

PRS for Music, a world-leading music collective management organisation, is partnering with The BRIT School’s renowned music department to inspire – and fund – the next generation of artists.

The partnership will enable The BRIT School to remain free to all performing and creative arts pupils, as the two organisations work together to develop and nurture the talented individuals who enrol at the school.

PRS for Music represents the rights of more than 175,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers around the globe.

The collaboration continues this week with PRS for Music supporting Chroma, two nights of original music created by The BRIT School’s Year 12 music students, to be performed at Stanley Halls in South Norwood.

As part of the programme, PRS for Music’s team will participate in a series of talks, sharing their professional expertise and knowledge of the music industry.

The partnership will build on The BRIT School’s history of encouraging students to be creative and dream big. Opened in 1991, the school’s former pupils include international stars including Grammy Award-winner Adele, Libera Award-winners Black Midi, MOBO award-winner FKA Twigs, Sunday Times best-seller Kae Tempest, six-time BRIT Award-winner Raye, to Ivor Novello Award winners The Feeling and MTV Europe Music Awards winner The Kooks.

Between them, former pupils have achieved 250million-plus record sales, 36 Top Ten albums, 91 Top 40 singles, including seven Number 1s; 21 BRIT Awards, 19 Grammys, two Oscars and two BAFTAs.

The BRIT School declined to reveal the value of the agreement with PRS for Music, but it does have more than 1,400 pupils, aged from 11 to 18, at its school in Selhurst, where it employs around 170 staff.
