To make sure that you have a vote in the General Election on July 4 – whether you are in any of Croydon’s four constituencies: Croydon East, Croydon South, Croydon West and Streatham and Croydon North – you need to ensure that you are registered to vote before midnight on Tuesday June 18.
To vote you must be over the age of 18, a British citizen, or a Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland.

Citizens of European Union countries are not eligible to vote in the general election.
If you’ve recently moved to the borough, changed address, your name or your nationality, you will need to re-register.
For the General Election, voters can vote in person at their polling station, use a postal vote (48,000 people in Croydon use postal votes, according to official figures), or appoint someone to vote on their behalf, a proxy.
- The deadline to apply to vote by post is 5pm Wednesday June 19. Click here for the council website page to apply for a postal vote
- The deadline to apply to vote by proxy is 5pm Wednesday June 26. Click here for the council website page to seek a proxy vote
The law now requires anyone voting at a polling station to bring acceptable photo ID. Voters who do not have one of the acceptable forms of photo ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate (VAC) by 5pm Wednesday June 26.
Anyone who requires a paper application form or needs additional support registering to vote or applying for a Voter Authority Certificate can visit a local library and ask a member of staff.
Alternatively, contact Croydon Council’s Electoral Services by email: electoral.services@croydon.gov.uk or call 0300 373 0595.
