Champion performance: team members from South Norwood Primary celebrate with their coach

More than 200 pupils aged 11 and under from across 15 schools in south London took part in the mini-Olympics, staged at Norman Park, Bromley last week. The meeting included seven track events and three field events.

South Norwood selected its team after a whole school sports day held at Croydon Arena last month.

“I can’t believe we won the whole thing!” said one excited South Norwood pupil.

Another described it as the “Best day ever.”

Melody Berthoud, South Norwood Primary’s head teacher, said: “We are so proud of all our amazing Year 6 athletes, and coach Mickey for his amazing support.

“Coach Mickey has been following the PE PRO scheme to teach all children different athletics skills during the summer term.

“Many of the children selected also play in South Norwood netball, basketball and football teams.

“We are very proud of all of our pupils for all the effort they put in.”
