What the organisers are describing as “a unique athletics festival organised by young people for young people” is taking place at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre next month.
The event, on Monday, August 19, is free and will see youngsters aged between 12 and 18 given the chance to take to the world-famous Crystal Palace track.
The festival is being run by the Rio Ferdinand Foundation and sports organisation GMax, organised by young people going through the Foundation’s leadership programme.
“It’s a chance for young people of all abilities from across south London to come together and enjoy the thrill of the track,” the organisers say. “There’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
Mark Lancaster, the founder of GMax, said, “With 2024 being an Olympic year and combined with the 60th anniversary of Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, the timing is perfect to create a memorable event we will all be proud of.”
Youngsters attending the event and interested in furthering their athletics skills will be invited to join local clubs with support from GMax Trackstars, while the Rio Ferdinand Foundation offers sports leadership training accreditation opportunities.
