“Empty spaces, blank faces”.

A conversation between the owner of the Clocktower Café on Katharine Street and John Reeve in 2011 led to the creation of the Click Clock Gallery – with art works adorning the previously blank walls, often as part of a co-ordinated exhibit.

During September, there’s an exhibition of abstract art by three local artists – Anna Z, Creativ-S  and Karine.

This is Karine’s first public exhibition, although she has been painting for many years. “I am fascinated by life-affirming colours and inspired by the beautiful English landscapes,” she says.

On exhibition: one of the 120 works currently on display in Katharine Street

Creativ-S uses digital cameras and Photoshop to create eye-catching abstract images, which have been exhibited in London, New York and China.

Anna-Z says: “For me, art is more than a medium, it’s a language of communication with the world.”

The Click Clock Gallery is open, at the same time as the café, the front and rear galleries full of works with 120 pieces of art in this latest monthly exhibit.

“At a time when Croydon is run down and drab, I think the bright colours on the walls are very uplifting, as do many of the customers,” says Creativ-S.

“Come and have a coffee and something to eat and see for yourself.”
