A main road linking the Purley Way to Wallington, past Beddington Park, is closed for emergency sewer repairs expected to last for four weeks, Thames Water has announced.

Road closed: Thames Water have closed Croydon Road after a sink hole appeared over a sewer
Croydon Road, the A232, has been closed to traffic after a sink hole appeared during the recent very wet weather.
The road closure is expected to cause havoc with traffic through October, as Croydon Road is used by several bus routes, including the new SuperLoop SL7.
Thames Water is using a shuttle service of large tanker vehicles to take away waste water from surrounding homes and buildings while the sewer repairs are carried out, adding to the traffic strain on the local roads.
The latest announcement on the Thames Water website, updated earlier today, says, “We are currently carrying out repairs to our sewer on Croydon Road, which was found following a sink hole appearing.
“Since the initial report the team have been working in collaboration with SGN [the gas network managers] and TfL due to a gas pipe being located within close proximity to where the repair is required.
“Due to the complexity of the repair and the large void in the carriageway we are having to implement a full road closure tonight September 25.
“The pedestrian footpath and cycleway will remain open.
“To help expediate these repairs we are working longer hours: Monday to Sunday 8am to 8.30pm
“We will continue to use tankers to take away the wastewater, allowing local residents to be able to use their facilities as normal and protect properties and the environment from flooding.
“The estimated time for overall completion will be four weeks.”
Thames Water says that they will update the page on their website as and when the work progresses.
