Upper Norwood’s ‘bake off’ raises £250 for Macmillan cancer

A coffee morning at All Saints Church, Upper Norwood last Friday, boosted by one enterprising local’s own version of Bake Off, raised more than £250 for Macmillan, the cancer charity.

The event, organised by ward councillor Claire Bonham, was one of the Macmillan coffee mornings staged each year to raise valuable funds for the charity, which provides services for people living with cancer, offering emotional, practical, physical and financial support.

The Upper Norwood coffee morning was especially successful thanks to the presence of loads of cup cakes provided by cake-maker Gabby Quashie-Apeatse, who runs local business QuashCakes.

QuashCakes donated a large box of cupcakes for the event. “I was delighted to support this event to raise money for Macmillan and it was wonderful to meet and connect with so many local residents,” said Quashie-Apeatse.

“Cake really can bring the community together!”

Councillor Bonham said: “It was lovely to see so many residents turn out for Macmillan.

“Upper Norwood is a kind and generous community and I’d like to pay tribute to Gabby and other residents for their kind donations.

“We really are so lucky to have local businesses like QuashCakes that are willing to support community events like this.”
