Early call: firefighters from four stations across the area attended the Beddington Lane blaze this morning
There was a large fire at Beddington Lane in the early hours of this morning – and for once, it appeared to have nothing to do with the nearby waste incinerator.
Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters tackled the fire on the Beddington industrial estate, where a unit containing around 10 cars was destroyed and part of a further single-storey unit was damaged by fire.
An electric vehicle was also destroyed by the blaze and crews ensured the lithium battery was cooled. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade’s control officers took the first 999 call just before 1am and mobilised crews from Norbury, Addington, Wimbledon, Beckenham and surrounding fire stations to the scene.
The Brigade says that the fire was under control by 3.16am. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
