Shakespeare in the Squares is about to embark on its first winter season, when the company won’t be performing Shakespeare in any of London’s garden squares, but instead will be delivering Macbeth in some of the capital’s most historic churches, including one in Upper Norwood.
Shakespeare in the Squares is a touring theatre company that usually stages a Shakespeare play in a square or open space for one night in each venue over the summer. The productions are tailored to the individual spaces, and the company works with local organisations to create a unique community celebration around the play, featuring some talented young theatre practitioners and stars of the future.
The Macbeth season begins at St Peter’s, Hammersmith, on November 7, and takes in (mostly) churches from the West End to Shoreditch, using 20 venues, and arriving at St John the Evangelist on Sylvan Road in SE19 on Friday, November 29.
The performance begins at 7.30pm and will be over by approximately 9pm. “There is no interval,” the producers advise. Tickets are from £16.81.
Macbeth, directed by Sioned Jones, is Shakespeare in the Squares’ eighth production. Jones is an actress and director whose previous credits include performing at the Menier Chocolate Factory and the the National Theatre.
