Croydon Council’s trading standards team has been named as London’s Team of the Year.
The annual London Trading Standards awards celebrate the achievements of dedicated officers across 10 award categories.
London Trading Standards praised Croydon’s team for its efforts over the past year, detailing how they had seized thousands of illicit vapes, undertaken hundreds of age-restricted product test purchases, investigated many doorstep crime cases and intervened in a number of scam victims’ cases.
London Trading Standards also recognised how Croydon’s team had developed successful relationships with schools, and advising and educating parents, teachers and pupils on the dangers of vapes.
The awards citation described Croydon’s trading standards team as succeeding in doing “what they do best – protecting consumers, enforcing the law and supporting decent businesses”.
Stuart Radnedge, London Trading Standards’ regional coordinator, said: “The awards are the chance to recognise the work of such amazingly talented individuals and teams who do their utmost to protect everyone in London.”

ROTTEN BOROUGH AWARDS: In January 2024, Croydon was named among the country’s rottenest boroughs for a SEVENTH successive year in the annual round-up of civic cock-ups in Private Eye magazine

When I tried to contact Trading Standards I was told to go to the Citizen Advice Bureau. Didn’t know they even existed anymore in the anarchic state we live in now.
Just shows, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks after all.
Trading Standards, Environmenmtal Health, all doing a great and worthwhile job while the rest disappears up the corporate a***hole. And … they don’t go around swanking about commitment, seeking praise like the rest of ’em. End of rant.
