Three teenagers – only one of them old enough to be named in reports – have been charged with attempted murder following the shooting in Park Street in central Croydon last week and are due to appear at the Old Bailey on March 13.

Another youth, aged 17, has been left with “potentially life-changing injuries” following the shooting.
Park Street and parts of Croydon High Street were cordoned off as a crime scene last week while the Metropolitan Police carried out their investigation.
The Metropolitan Police say that at 7.37pm on Monday, February 10, they responded to reports “of firearms discharge at Park Street, Croydon, and a male having been shot”.
When officers arrived, “they found the victim, who had been shot in the leg”.
The three teenagers were arrested on Tuesday and Thursday last week.
Dontae Dillon, aged 19, of Platinum Way, Burgess Hill, Sussex, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm.
A 16-year-old boy, also from Burgess Hill, was charged with the same offences.
And a 15-year-old boy from Croydon was charged with attempted murder.
All three have appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court in the past few days.

There really should be armed police patrolling 24-7 on London Rd, North End and High Street Area. These incidents are all too common
Victim is shot, armed police arrive, and then…? What’s the different outcome?
Chris, a tiny third world country like El Salvadore once known as the death capital of the world has cleaned up its act with armed police everywhere , implemented hard-line rules and and as consequence there is hardly any crime there.
Real leadership is everything….something we don’t have.

El Salvador hasn’t cleaned up its act, and there is crime there. It’s carried out by the government.
Amnesty International note with concern the “massive arbitrary detentions; forced disappearances; commitment of torture and cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment against individuals held in detention centers; and the deaths of individuals while in state custody – some as a result of torture or other ill-treatment.”
So your solution to people being shot is to put more guns on our streets?
That is the philosophy they have in the USA, where we can see it clearly doesn’t work and you are over 300 times more likely to be shot than in the UK.
We tackle violence by tackling the root causes of violence, not by introducing more violence. It’s more complicated and it takes time but it is the only real solution.

Have you ever noticed a link between poverty and higher violent crime? How about actually tackling poverty before believing that the best solution must be turning an area into a police state. I suggest we look at parts of the world such as Scandinavia, instead of using El Salvador as a model.
