Janet Nix, the pensioner accused of killing a five-year-old girl in Thornton Heath in 1978, has denied the charges.

Denied charges: Janice Nix appeared at the Old Bailey yesterday accused of killing a five-year-old girl 47 years ago
Nix, 66, appeared at the Old Bailey yesterday where she denied one count of manslaughter.
Nix had been charged last month over the death of Andrea Bernard, who was taken to hospital after she was scalded severely in a bath at her home at Ashley Road in June 1978.
The girl died from her injuries just more than a month later.
Nix also denied another charge relating to alleged cruelty to Andrea’s brother Desmond Bernard between October 1, 1975, and June 6, 1978, when he was aged between five and eight. Nix was aged between 16 and 19 at the time of the alleged incidents.
A previous court hearing had heard that Andrea Bernard had been forced into a very hot bath which scalded 50% of her body.
Following yesterday’s Old Bailey hearing, Nix was released on bail with conditions including to surrender her passports.
A further court hearing has been set for next Thursday, March 27, when a trial date is expected to be set.
