Bus stopped: the 130 lodged over the tram tracks yesterday afternoon
A crash investigation is being conducted by Transport for London after a single-decker bus careered off the road and lodged itself over two sets of tram tracks in New Addington yesterday, just before the afternoon’s school run.
The Metropolitan Police are also investigating the incident, which occurred near the junction of Field Way and Lodge Lane.
Early reports from the emergency services called to the scene suggested that one person needed to be taken to hospital for treatment.
Nearly three hours later, eyewitness reports said that the bus was still lodged over the tram tracks, stopping all tram services into and out of New Addington, while motor vehicles had to slow to navigate around the scene.
“Traffic is abysmal,” one local said.
“No public transport is coming in to Addo,” said another.
And another local posted on social media that the bus “must have been going at some speed to end up across the tracks like that”.
The London Ambulance Service say they were called at 2.38pm. A spokesperson said: “We sent resources including ambulance crews and an incident response officer to the scene.
“We treated one patient for a chest and arm injury and took them to hospital.”
With the bus cleared from the tracks overnight, TfL was reporting a “good service” on all tram services, including to and from New Addington, this morning.

So after the bridge at Norwood Junction last week New Addington had to get in to the act with some more inexplicably crazy bus driving. Anything to do with good old Grant Shapps and the watering down of public safety driving restrictions to get any old Tom, Dick or Harriet to be allowed to drive?
As the outcome of a case around the death of a nine-year-old girl demonstrates, these public transport incidents are rarely a joking matter, Derek.
