Some of the best-known and most-loved show tunes ever written are about to be dusted off and performed with suitable gusto, as My Fair Lady is brought to the stage of the Coulsdon Community Centre this December.
Possibly one of Theatre Workshop Coulsdon’s most ambitious productions yet, My Fair Lady is adapted from the original stage musical and Oscar-winning Hollywood film, which was based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion, a study of transformation and social attitudes, of his time and ours.
Lerner and Loewe’s celebrated musical adaptation includes show-stopping numbers including Wouldn’t It Be Loverly, I’m Getting Married In The Morning, I Could Have Danced All Night, On The Street Where You Live and With A Little Bit Of Luck.
It’s the story of a cockney flower-girl’s transformation into the pride of London’s high society – and its unforeseen consequences.
In many places it’s very funny, in others very poignant.
My Fair Lady, performed by the Theatre Workshop Coulsdon amateur dramatic group, is at the Coulsdon Community Centre on December 13, 17, 18, 19 and 20 (all 7.45pm start), with matinee shows on December 14, 20 and 21 (at 3pm).
