Video exclusive: man set for trial over Warlingham stabbing

EXCLUSIVE: This website has obtained a video clip from the violent incident at Warlingham Green on Tuesday night, when one man was hospitalised and another was arrested on a range of charges

Inside Croydon today publishes a brief video clip which appears to show some of the violent incident at Warlingham Green on Tuesday night, which led to one man needing hospital treatment and the arrest of another.

The man arrested has been described by Surrey Police as being from Croydon and aged 22. But they have refused to name him for “operational reasons”.

He has been released on conditional bail after being charged with wounding with intent, possession of a bladed article, affray and possession of a Class B drug.

The man injured in the incident needed hospital treatment, but he was released having suffered “non-life-threatening” injuries.

The police were called out at 9.40pm on November 25, “to reports of an altercation between a group of people on Limpsfield Road”. Officers attended with support from the dog unit.

On Wednesday, the Borough Commander for Tandridge, Lyndsey Whatley, had said: “We are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident…

“We have already received a number of pieces of footage and would ask if anyone knows anything about what happened or has any footage that may assist with our investigation, that they contact us.”

The video published here is only a 30sec clip, which shows two men involved in a fight, and two other men approaching.

The video does not show the full incident or the whole context, nor does it show how the confrontation began. But it appears from this that the black man is backing away from a confrontation, while a white man throws punches and kicks out at him. The black man walks away, and is punched to the back of the head.

According to a statement issued to Inside Croydon by Surrey Police, the man arrested “has been released on conditional bail and is due to appear at Guildford Crown Court on Monday December 22”.
