Tenants in Leonard Cheshire homes get early visit from Santa

Christmas is a time for giving, and more than 100 residents at Leonard Cheshire Homes in Crystal Palace and Bromley, and three other homes in Essex, enjoyed an early visit from Santa, as staff from investment firm James Hambro provided lots of festive cheer.

Early Santa visit: Athol House is one of the Leonard Cheshire homes to have received a visit from some generous donors

The generous gesture saw the disabled adults cared for at Athol House in Crystal Palace and St Cecilia’s and Springfield in Bromley get exactly what they had asked for on their Christmas lists!

Staff at London-based James Hambro contacted the disability charity, asking their local tenants and residents to send a list of gifts.

Gifts included a Luke Littler Darts set, PlayStation games and iPad accessories.

“The tenants are absolutely delighted – there are lots and lots of presents here!” said Joanna Philp, one the the Leonard Cheshire Homes team leaders.

“Thank you so much to everyone involved in making this happen for our tenants – what a lovely thing to do!”

For more than 75 years, the Leonard Cheshire charities have worked directly with disabled people to give them the freedom to live their lives the way they choose with the opportunity to take part in society fully. Today, Leonard Cheshire provides social care services support to help more than 1,000 disabled people.

As well as fighting for disabled people’s rights, Leonard Cheshire leads campaigns to influence government to implement legislation that positively benefits the lives of disabled people.

The service supports around two dozen disabled adults at two sites in Essex, Heathcroft and Moss Road. The James Hambro staff also sent gifts to people at residential homes including Seven Springs in Colchester, which supports 19 disabled adults, and the three homes in Crystal Palace and Bromley.

Nicola Barber, the head of charities at James Hambro, said: “This has been an absolute pleasure.

“We are delighted to make a small difference to Leonard Cheshire’s residents and tenants this Christmas.”
