Police issue witness appeal after car crash in South Croydon

The police have issued an appeal for witnesses to an incident last Monday night in South Croydon which has left a pedestrian with a serious head injury.

Police were called shortly after 9pm on January 5 to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car on Brighton Road, near the junction of St Augustines Avenue.

A 41-year-old man remains in hospital with head injuries as a result of the collision.

The driver of the car, who stopped at the scene, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released on bail.

Detective Sergeant Rob Groombridge, from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our investigation is ongoing and we are in the process of collecting dash cam footage, CCTV and any other information that will help us with our enquiries.

“I am appealing for anyone who saw the incident but has not yet spoken to police to contact us as soon as possible.”
