TfL makes cuts to Caterham to Addington Village 466 bus route

The 466 bus route, which runs between Caterham on the Hill and Addington Village, has had its frequency almost halved.

Timetable check: the 466 will now only run once every 12 minutes

With effect from yesterday, April 11, the 466 now runs once every 12 minutes, instead of every eight minutes. Bus frequency on Sundays and in the evenings is now once every 15 minutes.

In an advisory notice issued by Transport for London, they said: “We continuously review services to ensure they reflect customer demand and offer value for money. As part of this work, we have identified that a change in frequency is required on route 466 at certain times to meet current and expected demand.

“This means buses will operate every 12 minutes instead of every eight minutes between 06:30 and 21:00 on weekdays and between 07:30 and 20:15 on Saturdays.”

TfL says it will keep the change “under close review”.

“We encourage customers to check their journeys using the planning tools on our website or the TfL Go app.”

  1. Derek Nicholls says:

I wonder whether there is any connection between the reduction in frequency of the 466 and the cost of the new Chinese electric buses which have been allocated to the route? Or could it be that TfL have realised that the additional net cost of superimposing the Superloop routes on to the network is unaffordable?

Whatever the reason, TfL’s online timetable states that it runs every 6 — 10 minutes during the daytime so it looks like they have failed to update their publicity if they now declare (as their advisory note states) that it now runs every 12 minutes. What a pity. They could have published a list of departure times, showing at which minutes past each hour the buses are scheduled to depart — assuming that they are timed to run exactly every 12 minutes. That way prospective passengers could avoid excess waiting time.

  2. One 466 driver told me that TfL’s passenger figures are way out because most school kids don’t tap in
