Carshalton infants’ school digs in with garden centre’s help

Community support: Dobbies Garden Centre at Woodcote Green is working with a Carshalton primary to improve their garden

Dobbies Garden Centres is supporting 53 local charities and community groups across the country through its Community Gardens initiative.

And from hundreds of nominations received, their Woodcote Green store has chosen to support Victor Seymour Infants School in Carshalton.

The school has been developing its garden area, giving children the opportunity to learn about how plants and food grow. “The school is passionate about creating a new sensory garden and using materials to help support the children’s development,” according to Dobbies.

The Dobbies team provides volunteer hours and product donations, including plants, compost, grow-your-own items and essential gardening tools.

With Dobbies’ support, the school will receive the plants and tools they need to complete their project, as well as expert advice from Dobbies’ Green Team on what is best to grow at different times of the year.

Prize winners: with Dobbies’ help some youngsters from Carshalton will be learning more about gardening

Jon Hoare, the manager at Dobbies Woodcote Green, said: “Thank you to everyone who applied to Dobbies Community Gardens this year. We received a fantastic selection of entries from inspiring groups, all with a shared passion for bringing their garden projects to life.

“Selecting the successful project has been incredibly difficult, but we’re delighted to be supporting Victor Seymour Infants School this year.

“Through this initiative, we’re helping communities to get growing while creating and enhancing green spaces for local people to enjoy. We’re looking forward to seeing how Victor Seymour Infants School develop and the positive difference they will make.”

All kinds of community organisations, from schools to care homes, to charities, food banks and allotment societies, are able to submit their schemes to Dobbies for possible selection as part of the scheme.
