Have your voice heard at South Norwood Council Tax meeting

A special meeting attended by a local law centre is taking place tomorrow in South Norwood to help military veterans, disabled people, lone parents and those on low incomes with their Council Tax

South West London Law Centres will be at South Norwood Community Kitchen on Portland Road tomorrow, Tuesday, October 27, from 10am to help people with Council Tax.

They will also be discussing the council’s Council Tax Support consultation, which is considering reducing help for severely disabled or unwell residents, lone parents with children under five, disabled working residents and residents on very low income.

One local resident who will be helping to lead tomorrow’s discussion told Inside Croydon: “I am encouraging all residents to respond to this consultation.

“The council is consulting on changes to Council Tax Support and they want to hear directly from us as residents how future support could work for people who may be struggling with household costs.

“This is the perfect time and opportunity to share our experiences, explain the challenges we face and suggest what additional support could make a real difference to us as residents.

“The council also wants to hear from armed forces veterans. Additional support could help veterans who are experiencing financial difficulties by making sure they are aware of the assistance available to them and by considering their particular circumstances when support is designed.

“Please come along, ask questions, listen to the discussion and most importantly share you views. You do not need to be an expert on Council Tax. Our personal experience is valuable.

“The more residents who participate, the clearer picture the Council will have of how any changes could affect local people.”

South Norwood Community Kitchen is at Socco Cheta, 44b Portland Rd SE25 4PQ. Norwood Junction is nearby, and buses 75, 130, 157, 196, 197, 312 and 410 run through the area.
