Single-sex marriage meeting gives us: Barwell, The Movie

Earlier this week, we noted how a public event organised at a public venue in Croydon Town Hall by publicly accountable local MP Gavin Barwell seemed to have been under-publicised.

The meeting was about government policy on single-sex marriage. Some have reported that 40 people were in attendance. The meeting’s Facebook group listed just three confirmed attendees. Photographs we have seen of the meeting show somewhere in between those numbers in attendance.

We would have liked to provide our readers, some of whom have expressed disappointment that they did not know about the event, with a report on what was discussed, the tone of the meeting, the feelings of those who attended. Unfortunately, it was the staff’s day off.

What we can show you, though, is a video.

The video never pans away from Gavin Barwell, nor does it cut to anyone else in the room (although the woman who almost gets in shot as she prepares to leave does at least prove there were other people there). The video is a single-shot, 10-minute clip of Gavin Barwell telling people what he thinks.

We apologise for the poor quality of the recording, sound and edit. We are entirely reliant on one of Barwell’s parliamentary assistants – who is paid from public funds – for providing this clip, and present it here as a service to our loyal reader.
