There’s a new running event coming to Crystal Palace Park next month: the Dinosaur Dash Relay. Taking place in the beautiful Victorian park, this evening relay – the race starts at 7.30pm on June 17 – is a multi-terrain course of three 5km laps, each one tackled by a team member.
Starting on terraces once graced by the Great Exhibition’s Crystal Palace the undulating route follows the perimeter of the park passing fishing lakes before making its way around the lower lakes guarded by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins’ dinosaurs – the world’s first full-scale, three-dimensional dinosaur models (See Friends of Crystal Palace Dinosaurs for more information on these wonderful examples of Victorian heritage). Runners are then taken past the National Sports Centre before approaching the finish straight back up on the terraces.
Promising to be a fun team event the Crystal Palace Dinosaur Dash Relay is organised by Crystal Place Fun Runners, who’ve been part of the park’s life for more than 30 years and who welcome runners of all abilities as members.
The relay is open to all abilities from speedy club runners through to groups of friends fancying an evening run with a difference. The entry fee is £15 per team. You can enter online here.
