Charity walk is our chance to make a difference, says Day

Kevin Day, the stand-up comedian, scriptwriter and football pundit, is calling on the people of Croydon to turn up in force on Sunday to help raise as much money as possible for Mind in Croydon, the local mental health charity.

And Day’s even volunteering to make the tea for all the event’s finishers.

Positive Steps is the charity’s annual sponsored walk around Lloyd Park, now in its third year, where Day will be acting as the official starter and encouraging participants to have a healthy Sunday stroll in a very worthy cause.

“I think we’ve all realised that the more public spending on mental health services is cut, the more those services are actually needed,” Day told Inside Croydon.

“We are very lucky in our area to have the services of Croydon Mind, a resource I know from experience that provides fantastic support for those struggling to cope with a range of mental health and psychological issues.

“That help is given to regardless of your social background, your age, your gender, your sexuality or your colour. And it is given freely and in complete confidence.

“But it has to be paid for somehow which is why the very least I can do is sound the horn to start Positive Steps and then volunteer to make the tea for when everyone finishes the walk.”

Positive Steps starts at 10am on Sunday morning in Lloyd Park, with registration from 9.30am.The registration area and start is close to the park cafe, not far from the Lloyd Park tram stop.

Registration on the day costs £10 per person.

The walk is based on a three-mile loop of the beautiful and rustic park, with participants encouraged to raise sponsorship for three miles, six miles or nine miles. If you want to inflate the amounts you raise from sponsorship, you might want to collect for 5km, 10km or 15km…

Please make sure that you wear shoes suitable for a long walk, and you probably need to dress ready for all weathers. Bringing a drinks bottle to carry with you is also advised.
