Summer clubs: the council has released details for its summer activity programme
By ELSIE GOWERS
Thousands of free spaces at holiday clubs are available this summer for children and young people in Croydon who are in receipt of benefits-related free school meals.
Croydon Council is working with 56 organisations across 71 sites in the borough, offering children hot healthy meals as well as what they call “fun workshops” as part of the government-funded holiday activities and food – or HAF – programme.
More information can be found on the council website, where parents and carers can book spaces. The page also offers links to HAF programmes in neighbouring south London boroughs.
Children who attend the summer clubs are promised access to a wide range of activities including sports, arts and educational workshops. The selection of activities is vast, the council says, “allowing every young person the opportunity to learn and explore new skills and interests”.
The council says: “Every child with additional needs will be supported, with any special arrangements available in order to ensure that they feel welcomed and included.”
The council asks that any additional detail regarding a child’s needs or requirements should be provided to the chosen club at the time of booking.
Children who receive free school meals and are living in or attend school in Croydon are entitled to attend up to 16 sessions this summer.
Croydon schools each receive a unique voucher code for their pupils, so parents and carers should look out for an email from HolidayActivities in order to access this benefit.
Parents of eligible children who live in Croydon but attend school outside the borough will need to complete a separate form to request their own unique voucher code. Click here to access the form.
