Just how does Croydon’s cash-strapped council function? - Is Westfield deliberately driving traders out of the Whitgift Centre?
- Why won’t Mayor Perry allow some councillors to speak at council meetings?
- Which Newman Numpty is today the chair of a key council committee?
- And who wants Croydon Council to flog off the Fairfield Halls?
Our first round-table panel news discussion podcast thingy of 2025 – The Croydon Insider – asks all those questions, and many more.
As well as looking at some of the biggest local news stories in Croydon in recent weeks, for the first time our panel of iC readers get to put their questions to a councillor, to discover exactly what is going on at Croydon Town Hall.
Cllr Ria Patel was elected to Croydon Council in May 2022, one of the first from The Green Party to be elected in this borough. Representing Fairfield ward, Cllr Patel is Croydon’s youngest councillor.

As seen in Private Eye
Together with our panellists local businessman Oumesh Sauba, community and charity worker Lee Townsend and Inside Croydon’s culture correspondent Ken Towl, they discuss the Whitgift Centre and Surrey Street, the council’s Peer Review – as seen in Private Eye – and serve up a bit of old fashioned pie ‘n mash as well.
