A crime scene remains in place on Park Street in central Croydon following a shooting there last night.

The Metropolitan Police say that at 7.37pm, they responded to reports “of firearms discharge at Park Street, Croydon, and a male having been shot”.
Police and London Ambulance attended and provided first aid to the victim, before he was taken to hospital.
The police say that they “await an update on their condition”.
This morning, the police issued a brief statement on social media which said: “A crime scene is in place, no arrests have been made, and enquiries are ongoing.”

Why do the Met insist on using archaic and legalistic language when making public statements, instead of plain English, e.g. “Police were called to Park Street in Croydon yesterday evening at 7:37 PM. They responded to reports of gunshots and a man being shot.”
Let’s hope the male into whom the firearm was discharged is being treated well by physicians at the local infirmary, and that detectives of the constabulary quickly apprehend the person who discharged said firearm.
Got to be careful about discharges in Croydon. Mind how you go.
