Police were called to an emergency on a Croydon tram at Addiscombe yesterday evening, with one passenger stabbed, and their attacker quickly arrested.

Tram stabbing: the incident last night occurred between Lloyd Park and Sandilands
The incident is believed to have occurred in the tram tunnel between Lloyd Park and Sandilands tram stops.
According to the Metropolitan Police, officers were called “to reports of a stabbing on the Croydon Tram network near Lloyd Park” at 6.54pm.
Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain, the borough commander for Croydon, tweeted, “Officers arrived four minutes after the call was received,” perhaps demonstrating a keenness to show prompt response times by his officers.
“They gripped a chaotic scene, providing first aid to the victim and fast time investigative enquiries leading to the arrest of the suspect,” Ch Supt Brittain wrote.
Inside Croydon understands that the victim has already been discharged from hospital.
Croydon’s Mayor, Jason Perry, described it as a “tragic” incident, although no one died.
It was, said the Mayor, “deeply shocking for everyone involved”.
Perry tweeted: “Our hearts go out to the victim, and we are incredibly grateful for the swift response of the police, who arrived within four minutes to provide crucial first aid.”
The incident is now being dealt with by the British Transport Police, who provided this statement to Inside Croydon: “Officers were called to Addiscombe tram stop in Croydon at around 7pm yesterday following reports of a serious assault on board a tram between Sandilands and Lloyds Park.
“Officers attended alongside paramedics and a man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries consistent with being stabbed. He has subsequently been released from hospital.
“A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH and remains in custody. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
“There will be a heightened police presence in the area today whilst investigators gather evidence from the scenes. The tram network is running a normal service.
“While we are confident this was an isolated incident, additional reassurance patrols will be made in the area by both Metropolitan Police and British Transport Police.
“Enquiries into this incident are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 682 of 18 July.
“Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
