  1. Had it not been for the indifference of Steve O’Connell, the then London Assembly Member for Croydon and Sutton, we would have had a zebra crossing installed at this location in 2013: https://insidecroydon.com/2013/02/18/kenley-road-island-could-cause-more-deaths-says-campaigner/

Anyone wanting to make sure that this dangerous stretch of road is now made safer for all road users – prioritising the most vulnerable (pedestrians then cyclists) – can contribute to the consultation exercise by visiting https://haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/godstone-road-pedestrian-crossing

  2. Of course we need a crossing! I’m signing the petition right now. I’d go further and ask for lights at this dangerous junction. The hordes of delivery riders have added to the melee and make turning south into the A22 a risky business.

    • In early 2013, two senior Croydon council staff wrote to Transport for London to make the case for a signal-controlled crossing. Those requests were ignored.

Once you get beyond the Croydon boundary and head towards Caterham, you’ll see signal-controlled pedestrian crossings on the A22 Godstone Road at Viceroy House, Maple Road, Katherine Mews, number 199 and number 397.

This proves it can be done. it’s just that TfL say no. It’s up to Kenley councillors, the Mayor of Croydon and the Croydon & Sutton Assembly Member to make them say yes.
