Croydon families have a unique opportunity to participate in a free Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths – STEM – workshop designed specifically for children with autism.
Taking place on Saturday March 29 at the Hub Broad Green on Keeley Road, the STEM workshop is led by the charity Chi Mu Mu in collaboration with RoboThink UK and Big Local Broad Green.
As a local support organisation, BLBG was delighted to learn that Chi Mu Mu was leading this fantastic initiative with RoboThink and to see their keenness to support children living with autism in Croydon. Recognising the need for more inclusive educational opportunities, BLBG immediately offered its Hub as the venue for the workshop to ensure accessibility and comfort for the children and their families.
The Chi Mu Mu Foundation is dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities through practical relief, providing food, clothing, educational scholarships and essential services to those facing hardship.
As part of that commitment, they are staging the STEM workshop where they seek to create a supportive environment where children can explore science, technology, engineering and maths in a way that nurtures their strengths and interests.
Chi Mu Mu’s Berhan Kaleb said: “We are thrilled to provide a space where children with autism can explore, learn, and engage in an environment tailored to their needs.”
RoboThink UK brings its expertise as a global leader in STEM education, coding for children, robotics and engineering programs. Operating in more than 30 countries, RoboThink has been instrumental in nurturing young minds through STEM programmes that spark creativity and problem-solving skills. The workshop in Broad Green aims to equip children with valuable skills that extend beyond the classroom.
Figures suggest that as many as 15% of Croydon’s school-age children have a special educational need. “The harsh reality is that there is very little out-of-school provision borough-wide for SEND children,” said Kelechi Onyia, the project manager at Big Local Broad Green.
“It is fantastic that Chi Mu Mu and Robothink UK have taken the initiative to bring a programme like this to the community directly.”
