Delve behind the headlines on Allders, The Fold, Anonyvoter and campaign launches, with our regular subscriber podcast

Our Croydon Insider podcasts are an (almost) regular delve behind the headlines at the stories that matter to you, Inside Croydon’s loyal readers.

And in our latest wide-ranging episode – part of what has been described as a “citizens’ revolt against the propaganda of power” – our panel of readers also get the chance to put Questions to the Mayoral Candidate, as we put the Green Party’s Peter Underwood in the hot seat ahead of next May’s local elections.

Our panel for this podcast comprises iC’s resident culture vulture, Ken Towl, who’ll happily travel miles for a £1 breakfast; there’s Anabel Smith, who ventured inside the Whitgift Centre and survived to tell the tale; Garwood Foundation charity chief Ross White; community energy company CEO Connie Duxbury; and former BBC TV News reporter Neil Bennett.

  • Inevitably, we discuss the latest “innovation” by Westfield in the town centre, and Mayor Perry’s goody bag from one of the new kiosks just opened in Allders.
  • We take a look at the rumbling Labour fixed selection scandal and Anonyvoter, now that the national media have almost caught up two years late, and we speculate on just who might get their collar felt now the Crown Prosecution Service has become involved. Have we libelled anyone? Buy the podcast to find out…
  • Then there’s the appalling state of the mouldy Fold flats, the residential tower block across the road from Croydon Town Hall that is being forcibly evacuated just three years after it was built.
  • There’s the bank closures across the borough, including in New Addington.
  • Plus the environmental numbskullery of the government approving a second runway at Gatwick – where local MP Sarah Jones used to work.
  • And the issue of crosses and flags – and the BBC’s somewhat selective reporting of the far right.

The Croydon Insider is premium content exclusively for paying subscribers of Inside Croydon via Patreon, and each individual episode is also available for a modest fee (less than the cost of a pint in the Dog and Bull) on our Spotify page.

Look out for our next episode later in October, when we’ll be looking at Croydon, history and ghosts and ghouls…

And check out some of our more recent podcast content here…

  • The Andrew Fisher Interviews see our columnist in discussion on the news of the day with a range of national figures, including recently with his former boss, Jeremy Corbyn, in an exclusive podcast in which the Your Party co-leader revealed how he was expelled from the party with a note suggesting he might contact the Samaritans.
